What this video covers

SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ) is SailPoint's on-premises identity governance platform. It decides who should have access to what across a company's systems, creates and removes that access as people join, move and leave, and produces the evidence auditors ask for. This video explains it in under ten minutes, without a product tour.

The video follows one employee, Priya, from her first day to her last. Her HR record is the authoritative source, so it becomes her Identity Cube — one view of everything about her identity. IIQ then aggregates her other accounts, such as Active Directory, and correlation attaches each account to her cube. Accounts that match nobody stay uncorrelated; those are the orphan accounts auditors worry about.

From there the seven lessons cover the concepts that come up in SailPoint IIQ interviews: where IIQ runs (a Java web application on an application server with a relational database, and how that differs from Identity Security Cloud, now Human Fabric); joiner, mover and leaver handled by Lifecycle Manager; roles and separation-of-duties policies; access certifications; and the rules, workflows and tasks that let each company shape IIQ to its own process. Each lesson ends with an interview line you can reuse.

Who it is for: working IT professionals who keep meeting "SailPoint IIQ" in job descriptions and want to know what the product actually does before deciding whether to learn it. No prior IAM knowledge is assumed.

What it is not: a hands-on tutorial. For installation steps and configuration screens, SailPoint's own IdentityIQ 8.5 documentation is the source, and the video links to it. SailPoint announced IdentityIQ 9.0 on 6 October 2026; the concepts here carry across versions.

Frequently Asked Questions

SailPoint IdentityIQ (IIQ) is SailPoint's on-premises identity governance platform: it builds an Identity Cube for every person, automates joiner, mover and leaver, applies roles and separation-of-duties policies, runs access certifications, and is extended with rules and workflows. That is the recap at 8:32 of the video.
The Identity Cube is IIQ's single view of one person. Aggregating the authoritative source, usually HR, creates the cube; aggregating other systems such as Active Directory reads their accounts in, and correlation attaches each account to the right cube. An account that cannot be matched to anyone stays uncorrelated — an orphan account. Lesson 3 of the video (2:54) walks through this with Priya's accounts.
IdentityIQ is installed and run by the customer. It is a Java web application that runs on an application server such as Tomcat and stores its data in a relational database such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL, with connectors linking it to HR, Active Directory, databases and business applications. SailPoint's cloud product, Identity Security Cloud (now Human Fabric), is hosted by SailPoint instead. Lesson 2 (1:46) covers the difference.
Joiner, mover and leaver are the lifecycle stages IIQ automates through Lifecycle Manager: granting access when a person joins, adjusting it when they change role or manager, and removing it when they leave. Lifecycle events are evaluated during identity refresh and launch the matching business process. Lesson 4 (4:17) follows Priya through all three.
It gives you the seven concepts interviewers expect and an interview line for each, which is the right starting point.
